INDIGO THREADS OFFICE HAS MOVED.

November 25, 2008

INDIGO THREADS office has moved to Sanamsay Village, Km. 3, Pakse, Champasak Province on September 1, 2008.  We are located across from the UN World Food Program Pakse office near the Pakse Teacher’s Training College.  The large facility was chosen for its ability to accommodate INDIGO THREADS current and projected future Programs.  Above all, it meets our criteria as the best possible location available for preparing our important School Lunch Program.

The School Lunch Program is prepared under a large covered carport type structure with a concrete floor at the rear of the main house.  Attached to the carport is a storage room for our large soup pots and other cooking equipment. There is more than enough room for our 3 cooking fires, food prep tables and the 4 people who prepare the food.  For our daily market delivery, the wrap around driveway allows the tuk tuk transportation to deliver our food purchases directly to the cooking area.  We are preparing 1,750 school lunches per 4-day week.

The beautiful landscaped gardens with lush native fruit and flowering trees are twice the size as the office/house.  We have ample space to grow a simple vegetable and chili/herb garden providing basics for our School Lunch Program. Security gates enclose the entire property. The upper story of the house is the original traditional Laotian style house with polished teak floors.  A comfortable sunny sitting area separates the two bedrooms and with a western bathroom.  This area will accommodate volunteers and visiting tourist for our pilot Volunteer and Work Programs.  These Programs are available for a limited number of interested people for short-term stays with a defined donation from December 23, 2008 to February 13, 2009 and, again, from April 17, 2009 to June 1, 2009.

In recent years, the main floor has been constructed under the original house.  The expansive living room, separate large kitchen, a small bedroom and an additional bathroom are equipped with most western conveniences. An open teak staircase joins the two floors from the inside and a private staircase from the outside.  The office is separated from the living space, entering from another outside door.  Teak wood is used often because of the tropical climate.  The entrance doors are beautifully hand carved teak, as well, as the living room furnishings.

With the expansive property we look forward to expanding and creating new Programs.  We welcome you to stop by (and maybe pull a few weeds, too.)  My Lao phone mobile is (856) 20-535-9915.  Villa Indigo is also my Lao residence.  We are anxious to begin our Volunteer and Work Programs.  Contact me for more information.
