EASY RIDER!
March 30, 2014
By the time he's 8, he'll skillfully be driving the family motorbike. We in the US would call these lightweight motorbikes, motor scooters that are perfect for the Asian market. Let’s make it clear. I’m not talking about the plastic toy, which has become available in Laos’ during the past 5-years and pricey.
This is a comment we want to share from Facebook..
“Too bad he doesn’t have clothes.”
Hands-on Indigo Threads response:
When I first surveyed Indigo Threads projected Programs in So. Laos’ rural villages 11-years ago, I too was very concerned Many young children throughout rural villages were without clothing on their bottoms, exposing their bloated little bellies, also. Distraught with what I saw, I couldn’t wait to get back to the US to return with clothes for these kids and so much more. I did and continue to do so, returning with slightly used clothing every one of my 28 return trips.
I understand after working with these struggling rural people so many years. Young rural children without clothing is total acceptable within their rural village communities. And babies wet and mess often. The expense of diapers, if available, is out of the question, while precious water can be kilometers away at the river. Rural Laotians’ strengths are adapting to what they have to work with.
