Indigo Threads Awards 8 Teaching Scholarships 2010/2011

January 12, 2011

Indigo Threads is proud to announce the award of 8 scholarships to the Pakse Teacher’s Training College for the 2010-2011 school year.  Indigo Threads scholarships include student tuition and on-camps living expenses, while students are required to invest in their own education by providing for additional expenses.  After completing their education, recipients return to their rural regions where there is a critical shortage of qualified teachers to work in village schools, while passing on the gift of education

The recipients are as follows:
Three renewed second year scholarships to continue with their 3-year course to become secondary level teachers.  Mr. Somsay and Mr. Anouvan are supported by the generosity of Mr. Phonexay Singharatsvong, USA, in cooperation with Indigo Threads.
Mr. Somsay Lemany
Mr. Anouvan Permsana
Miss Leo Keomany

Four new recipients were selected in cooperation with the Pathoumpone District Education Department; first year of a 2-year course to become primary school teachers.  When completing their education these students will be assigned to work in Pathoumpone District rural primary schools.
Mr. Thongkham Sengaloun
Mr. Sathiang Khoungchamnong
Mrs. Bouakhai Keomany  (Not related to Miss. Leo)
Miss Phoudthai Keobounthan

A special weekend English course third year renewed scholarship and final year.
Mr. Orahan Xaixanapanya

A ninth scholarship was awarded to Mr. Chanthavong Anisong for a 6-week 2010 summer English course at VIDA English School, Pakse, Laos.  The course was a pre employment requirement before joining Indigo Threads staff as translator and key associate in August 2010.

Indigo Threads Director visits Indigo Threads on-campus resident students to monitoring their academic progress and well being.  The first 7 students on the above list are a long distance from their rural villages without the immediate support of family.

Higher education costs escalate yearly; in Laos also.  Still consider an exceptional value, a donation of $500.00 per year will still support a young Laotian student’s college education to become a teacher with life long employment and an income to provide for their family.  Money well spent as an active participant to make a better life for an impoverished Laotian youth who has no opportunities.  Your rewards are unmeasurable.

We wish each student great success while studying, on their there way to becoming the best teachers they can be.
