Dear Coachella Valley Residents and Welcomed Visitors,

Indigo Threads, Laos Education Support and Village Development Organization, is a small Coachella Valley based non-profit (501-3-C) humanitarian Organization dedicated to the development and support of educational opportunities for desperately poor rural children in Southern Laos Villages.  Laos, Southeast Asia, is one of the 10th poorest undeveloped Countries in the world.  Indigo Threads mission simply is to provide an education for these desperately poor children who live in extreme poverty.   We give the gift of education; a gift that lasts forever.

We build schools, dig and repair safe wells, build latrines, donate school furnishings, provide textbooks, school uniforms, school supplies twice a year, support teachers with teaching aids and supplies, developed a fully supplied library, developing into a ‘roving’ library at 10 additional schools with Programs taught by Indigo Threads, donate bicycles to attend school, 1,700 students per week receive a nutritious school lunch at their schools, provide supplemental rice for students and their families, donate laundry and bath soap to their families, provide a School Health Checkup Programs for students, donate 100’s of bottles of multi vitamins and toothbrushes, provide emergency family health care, donate children and family clothing, provide scholarships to the Teacher's Training College donate school trash containers and brooms and the list continues.  As you can see, giving the gift of education is not that simple in the desperately poor developing Country of Laos.  Because of extreme poverty and lack of opportunities, the entire circle of living must to be addressed to enable children to receive an education.

Working in the field in Champasak Province, Laos for the past 4 1/2 years as President/Executive Director/Founder with one to three Laotian staff persons, we have proudly made an overwhelming difference in helping to educate the children/students with Indigo Threads many ‘hands on’ Education Support Programs.  All children deserve the dignity of being literate, educated and encouraged to be more.

Indigo Threads is nearly OUT OF FUNDS to continue our important mission where it is sincerely needed.  These are difficult times for some in the US.  The difference is these children have no hope for anything but surviving poverty—not enough food, no sanitation, no clean drinking water, no health care, thatch housing, little clothing, no education opportunities, no electricity, no transportation and drawing paper is a luxury toy.  Because of Laos’s economics and my frugal budgeting, Indigo Threads provides students with a nutritious school lunch with protein and vitamins for 10 cents a day per student, purchase 50 K. of rice for $15.00, a quality bicycle for $35.00, textbooks at $1.50 each, uniforms at $7.00, build quality desks for 3 at $25.00, purchase large classroom white boards at $28.00, 1 year's college tuition with room and board, $500., build a 3-classroom school for $20,000., support a School Health Checkup Program for 465 student $250.00 including prescriptions, dig a safe drinking well for $1,700. and make repairs to others for under $200.  Believe it!  It is absolutely true.

Now, I am asking you for your DONATIONS--LARGE OR SMALL.   Please, help Indigo Threads provide educational opportunities for these Laotian children giving them dignity through education.  I know there are many very generous people in the Coachella Valley and our welcomed visitor who want to make a difference in the world.   Indigo Threads provides this opportunity with our grateful gratitude and that of the Laotian students.   Visit our website for more information with many photos describing our Programs and ‘blogs’ with updated Program reports, current events and projected Programs.
