Bicycles . . . And More Students Bicycles-2009

November 12, 2009

Over the past 5 years, Indigo Threads has donated 75 bicycles for secondary school students to travel long distance from their village to school.  This year is no exception, exceeding previous year’s donations.

Twenty colorful shiny new bicycles were donated to two Indigo Threads assisted poor rural villages to support their secondary school students’ transportation needs.  Unlike primary schools located closer to villages, secondary schools are located within a 20-kilometers radius from their villages without local transportation.  The lack of transportation is often a reason students do not continue on to secondary school; in addition to greater school costs and fees.  The Village Committee in cooperation with teachers determines the distribution of Indigo Threads bicycle donation to the village’s poorest families students.  Indigo Threads encourages and supports students to continue and complete their secondary school education despite the Lao Ministry of Education Department minimum primary school requirements.

Footnote:  Bicycles are always needed to enable students to attend school.  If you would like to help a student attend school, a donation of $35.00 will allow us to purchase one bicycle.

Sabaidee with good wishes.
