Indigo Threads Proposes New School at Ethnic Village

August 6, 2010

Updated Report January 23, 2012:  Ban Lieng Ethnic Primary School remains in the same deplorable unsafe condition as seen pictured below.  Without funding Indigo Threads is not able to construct a new school for these students.

Can you imagine children in the United States or any other developed country attending school and learning at this unsafe, dilapidated, leaky tin roof building with dirt floors and no classroom partitions?  Hundred fifty students from grades 1 to 5 and their 5 teachers do the best they can with what they have, encouraging the importance of education despite the numerous disadvantages.  This is just one school out of many throughout Lao’s rural regions in similar condition.

Indigo Threads is proposing to replace this school ‘shack’ with a new 5-classroom quality constructed school in mid 2011 at Ban Lieng Ethnic Primary School in Pathoumpone District, Champasak Province.  The projected cost is $45,000.00, which includes furnishing the school with desks and blackboards, constructing on-campus latrines with consideration to providing a safe water well.  By all standards, this school construction is considered a great value.  Indigo Threads has the experience of building and donating 2 previous schools in the same impoverished District; the first in 2007, the second in 2008.

Keep in mind, the US dollar continues to fall now at 8,000 kip to $1.00, loosing nearly 20 cents on the dollar in exchange.  It will ‘take a village’ of generous, caring Friends of Indigo Threads to finance the construction of this school to make the students and teachers dream come true.  Our building fund campaign begins TODAY.  We are all counting on YOU.

MAKE THESE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS DREAMS COME TRUE.
